Hi, I’m Director Pi, a YouTuber, and cosmetic ingredient analyst. Today’s video is about 2020 ver. products for pregnant women, infants, and kids. Items that I’ll recommend in this video include products that I’ve already mentioned and products that I’ve tested in the last few months. Let me first tell you about the standards that apply to both normal occasions and for this video. Products that don’t include potentially harmful ingredients Products that include nature-based surfactants and Amino-acid type surfactants Products that include Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate as cleansing agents There are 4 more standards that I look for in this video particularly. First of all, fragrance and artificial fragrance. It is ok for people with normal skin to use fragrance, but it is not recommended for sensitive skin, pregnant women, infants, and children. Some types of fragrance can cause allergic reactions to some people, but this doesn’t appear on every skin. Starting from Jan 2020, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety enforced rules regarding cosmetics for young children and infants. so brands must mark all ingredients that can cause allergies in their products. Third, aroma oil. Some oils are good for pregnant woman and some are dangerous, But I’ll say that pregnant women and infants should avoid using lavender oil. pregnant woman with sensitive skin should also avoid using geranium My opinion is that it may be dangerous for pregnant women or infants to use products that include aroma oil. If you don’t know exactly where the original ingredient is from or how it is processed, it’s safe to avoid using it. There are ingredients designated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to avoid using on infants under the age of 3. Mainly it’s Salicylic Acid type ingredients. 2% of Salicylic Acid is included in cleansing products And about 3% is included in wash-off hair products. It is prohibited to include Salicylic Acid in products that specifically indicate that it can be used by children under 13. Pregnant women should also avoid Salicylic Acid too. Some ingredients have been announced as a controversial component through papers, articles, and conferences. That ingredient is CMI/MIT, which is also known as humidifier disinfectants, but it’s not often used as much these days. However, it isn’t completely banned. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety allows including under a designated amount, so it is important to read the ingredient list. Paraben components are a type of sterilizing and preserving ingredients. There are many case studies and papers connecting it to breast cancer. In Korea, this ingredient can be used below the standard provided by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced a cautionary phrase to state that paraben type products that are not meant to be washed off, should not be used on infants under the age of 3, on areas that diapers touch. However, I would recommend products that don’t include paraben. Triclosan (Preservative) Based on the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety research paper, the Korea Consumer Agency announced that Triclosan is an endocrine disruptor that can affect the formation and motility of sperms And also affects the manifestation of genes that are related to the synthesis of various proteins. Phenoxyethanol. Phenoxyethanol is needed as a preservative, but I wouldn’t recommend it in products for pregnant women or infants. If pregnant women or infants that have weaker immune systems are exposed to Phenoxyethanol percutaneously, it may be harmful since the toxicity could be absorbed more quickly. Benzophenone This is an ingredient that isn’t recommended to adults because it is harmful, it can make your eyes watery, and irritate your skin. (Silicone oil) Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Cyclotetrasiloxane Pregnant women and infants may be subject to dermal and inhalation toxicity These ingredients are functional components that are needed, but not for pregnant women. Ingredients that can improve wrinkles and brighten the skin tone should also be avoided. Brightening ingredients can get in the way of processing melanin, so they can interfere with our body’s enzyme activity. This can disturb the growth of the baby, thus pregnant women should not use brightening cosmetics. Wrinkle-improving ingredients! Retinol, Retinyl Palmitate, Polyethoxylated Retinamide, and Adenosine can promote the differentiation of epithelial cells, which can be harmful to both the mother and the baby. Pregnant people and infants should use physical sunscreen rather than chemical sunscreen. I would recommend physicals sunscreen for pregnant women and infants. These aren’t cosmetics, but Isotretinoin, which is a treatment for acne and tretinoin, gets rid of sebum and oil. I wouldn’t recommend it to pregnant women or women of childbearing age. This is because it can harm the central nervous system(CNS) or even cause facial deformity. Many other ingredients can be harmful to pregnant women, so I advise you to consult a doctor before using any products. Stretch marks These recommended items are products that I’ve already recommended for pregnant women or items that I found over the course of tests in the last few months. The ingredients may be renewed after this video, so make sure to check the ingredient list before you buy the product. I’ll be marking products with these stickers that indicate if it is for pregnant women or for infants. As for pregnant women, I’ll only be talking about necessary categories. First of all, stretch marks. I’ve already mentioned that no product can get rid of stretch marks. You don’t need to apply products for stretch marks and then apply body lotion again. It’s ok to use body products that include a lot of occlusives that form strong moisture barriers. If you don’t have that kind of body cream, it’s ok to use stretch mark creams. Stretch mark creams include a lot of occlusives, so it can be used on extremely dry skin and atopy skin. Atopalm Maternity Care Massage Oil The ingredient list shows that squalene, Corylus Avellana (Hazelnut) Seed Oil, Brassica Campestris (Rapeseed) Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Macadamia Seed Oil are occlusives. Atopalm and Real Barrier is a brand made by NeoPharm. Myristoyl/Palmitoyl Oxostearamide/Arachamide MEA, which is the common skin barrier ingredient, is included. The scent of the original ingredient is great without fragrance. It is a massage oil that helps restore the skin barrier around stretch marks. The massage improves blood circulation too! I would recommend this item to not only pregnant women but also dry skin. Primera The Relief Cream for Stretch Marks This product includes occlusives, squalene, and shea butter, which are great for moisturizing dry skin. The cream type texture isn’t sticky and it’s very light. This is a great stretch mark cream that you can use instead of body lotion. Q. So it’s not necessary to apply both oil and cream? If you have oily skin, just use cream. If you have dry skin, apply both oil and cream. Use it according to your skin type. Cleansers When I was pregnant, I had a lot of skin problems. When I changed cleansers, my skin got better! Innisfree The Minimum Cleansing Lotion is the product that I would recommend for pregnant women. I’ve already recommended this item on my Innisfree video. The cleansing effects are around medium, which means that it removes sunscreen or natural makeup. However, it wouldn’t completely remove waterproof sunscreen or long-lasting lip tints. This product is great for pregnant women, infants, and people with sensitive skin. It’s a hypoallergenic cleansing lotion with good ingredients. Etude House SoonJung Slightly Acidic 6.5 Whip Cleanser I said that I would gladly pay for this product in my Etude House video. Panthenol and Madecassoside help recover skin barriers. Hypoallergenic cleansing ingredients such as Lauryl Glucoside, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate are also in the mix. It’s a whip cleanser that shoots whipped bubbles, meaning that the cleansing effects aren’t strong. It’s ok to use it in the mornings or to cleanse easy-washable sunscreen. It can also come in handy to people with oily skin for double-cleansing after using a cleansing oil. Children and infants can also use this product. It is a hypoallergenic cleansing foam with good ingredients. Basic skincare I’ll be introducing basic skincare products according to each category. Don’t try to use every item, just select the ones that fit your skin type. The first category is toners! I brought two items for this category. Polatam Vitalizing Water. This is a wiping toner that can be useful for daily exfoliating. Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Fruit Extract helps gentle, daily exfoliating. It also includes hyaluronic acid for hydration. It doesn’t leave much on the skin, meaning that you’ll feel fresh after using this toner. This is a hypoallergenic exfoliating toner for acne skin and pregnant ladies. Costailor f/w Toner is made by a dermatologist. You can see by the name f/w, it is a toner for the fall and winter seasons. It is oil-free and meanwhile uses Ceramide NP and allantoin to strengthen skin barriers. It’s a moisturizing toner that includes low-molecule and high-molecule hyaluronic acid . If the Polatam Vitalizing Water is for wiping, the Costailor f/w Toner is for hydration. It’s for moisturizing and gently wiping dry skin. This product is a moisturizing hyaluronic acid toner that is great for reddish skin. I brought a lotion type moisturizer and a cream type moisturizer. For the lotion type moisturizer, I have Etude House Soonjung 10 Free Moist Emulsion Panthenol and Madecassoside helps recover skin barriers It’s a light lotion that focuses on moisturizing. I would recommend this product to pregnant women, infants, and men with dehydrated oily skin. It’s 8,000KRW for 80mm, which is quite cost-effective! This is a long-lasting all-in-one lotion with medium moisturizing effects. Q. What’s the difference between stretch mark creams and moisturizers? Moisturizers include gas-permeable occlusives, so it softens immediately. On the other hand, stretch mark creams form a strong moisture barrier on your skin. Next up we have an all-in-one cooling gel, Etude House Soonjung Moisturizing All-in-one Gel. When you get pregnant, your skin often gets a lot of heat, cooling products can come in handy. This is a gel-type product, but it includes silica, that prevents it from being sticky. This product also includes a lot of Panthenol, which helps recover skin barriers and sooth the skin. However, it’s not necessary, so use it if you need extra cooling effects. This is a hypoallergenic all-in-one gel that would cool your skin temperature down. Another lotion is the Keep Cool and Soothe Bamboo Lotion that I’ve recommended before. It includes soothing ingredients, and 2% of Derma-Clera, which is an ingredient to strengthen skin barriers. This product also includes 7 types of hyaluronic acid, so I would recommend it to pregnant women. I would also recommend it to people with dehydrated oily skin and combination oily skin. It is a dewy all-in-one lotion that helps restore skin barriers. You don’t have to apply an ampoule. Use it if it fits your skin type, and if you feel like you need it. This product includes 2 ingredients. Centella Asiatica extract and Madecassoside for soothing. If you use it every day, it’ll strengthen your skin barriers. A’pieu Madecassoside Ampoule is a soothing ampoule for all types of skin. Krave Beauty Oat So Simple Water Cream The main ingredient is Madecassoside Avena Sativa (Oat) Meal Extract Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides and squalene are included as moisturizing ingredients. As for preservatives, 1,2-Hexanediol is included in the mix. This product is also great for dehydrated oily skin, combination skin, and dry skin. It doesn’t make your makeup look cakey even if you apply it in the morning This is a hypoallergenic moisturizing cream with minimal ingredients. Sunscreen You can’t apply functional brightening products when you’re pregnant. Then what do you need? Sunscreen! 2sol All Day Shield Sun Stick Non-nano titanium dioxide that doesn’t make your eyes watery or leave your skin too oily. This product includes moisturizing agents such as beeswax and Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil Which would be too sticky on oily skin, but quite moisturizing on dry skin. It’s a CC cream that works as a sunscreen and mildly fixes your skin tone. This is a tone-up sun stick with medium~high UV protection. Etude House SoonJung Mild Defence Sun Cream This product is a physical sunscreen that includes zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. It’s moisturizing but leaves some white cast. Silicone oil is included in the mix, but it’s only to boost the texture. This is a sunscreen that can be used by dehydrated oily skin, oily skin, and combination skin. It’s a cost-effective non-nano physical sunscreen. Hair Care I’ll be talking about body products now. These body washes can be used by both pregnant women and infants. Dr.Bronner’s Baby Unscented Pure-Castile Soap I brought this because it is unscented. Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Olive oil, Hempseed oil, and Jojoba oil are included in the mix. Since it’s a soap, it’s slightly alkaline. If you have oily skin or sweat a lot in summer, slightly acidic cleansers might not be enough. In this case, use this product for extra cleansing purposes. This is a body cleanser for oily skin in the summer. BENTON Shea Butter And Coconut Body Lotion Shea butter (3.5%) and Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil (2%) makes it moisturizing, But it’s also sticky and it doesn’t include strong moisture occlusives, so I would recommend it to people with dry skin or combination skin. It’s an aroma oil-free, fragrance-free body lotion for the whole family. Shades Ca va bien Sweet Dew (recommended item) This is a semi-matte foundation that includes physical sunscreen titanium dioxide. It doesn’t include silicone oil! It’s hard to find a foundation that is silicone oil-free. This item comes off easily even with water, meaning that it doesn’t show strong coverage or adherence. This item gives a natural look that basically covers the skin tone. It finishes off quite powdery and soft so it’s good for sensitive skin and oily skin. This is a good semi-matte foundation that I would recommend to sensitive, oily, and dehydrated oily skin. Sidmool Min Jung Gi Revive Ampoule Cushion This item includes physical sunscreen. It doesn’t include silicone oil or functional ingredients. It shows low coverage, adherence, and consistency. However, it works as a basic cushion. This product is a semi-matte hypoallergenic cushion that I would recommend for oily skin and dehydrated oily skin, Innisfree Pore Blur Powder The ingredient list is very simple and this product can be used by sensitive skin because it doesn’t include preservatives or fragrance. I would also recommend this to pregnant women that sweat a lot or have excessive sebum in the summer. It’s a hypoallergenic powder that doesn’t include preservatives or fragrance. Next up we have a lip product that young people can use. Sidmool Tomato Lip Tint Purified water and rose water are in the front of the list, followed by moisturizing agents and emulsifying agents. 1,2-Hexanediol works as a preservative. Use it within 3~6 months after opening it. Aromatica Lip Nectar & Sidmool Lip Tint The first 3 ingredients form the texture. Sunflower seed oil, Apricot kernel oil, and Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil moisturize the lips. Red oxidized steel gives a pretty and natural look, which is much like a lip balm. It also includes Tocopherol as an antioxidant. Since it doesn’t include many preservatives, you should use it within 3 months. Aromatica Lip Nectar & Sidmool Lip Tint are not that kind of tints that just turn pink at the end. This is because it doesn’t include artificial pigments such as red no.202 and red no.218. You may feel like it doesn’t last long because it doesn’t turn pink. These are good lip tints that don’t include artificial pigments, preservatives, and fragrance. Cleansers 5 categories for infants! Cleansing, moisturizing, wiping, avoiding inflammation, and sun care. First of all, cleansing. Primage Organic 2 in 1 Bath & Shampoo Infants don’t need to use shampoo and then use a different bath product. Their skin is still delicate, so it’s important to wash them with an all-in-one product within 5 minutes. This product includes soothing agents such as Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, and hypoallergenic cleansing ingredients such as Decyl Glucoside and Coco-Glucoside. It also includes a lot of moisturizing ingredients. This is an all-in-one product that focuses on cleansing. It is an all-in-one item for babies. Earth Mama Non-Scents Baby Wash I brought this to compare the ingredient list. It’s hard to find a body wash that doesn’t include fragrance and aroma oil. However, there was something strange about the ingredient list. This is a “soap” but there aren’t any cleansing ingredients. I looked online and contacted the brand, and they replied that there aren’t any cleansing ingredients included. However, the English ingredient list on the container clearly marks Potassium Hydroxide, which is a cleansing ingredient. The brand might have left it out in the process of translating and manufacturing the product in Korean. This sometimes happens in imported products, so make sure to take the English ingredient list in mind as well. It’s great that it doesn’t include fragrance and the overall ingredient list is ok. However, it is an alkaline washer, making it an item for occasional use when it comes to infants. You should also be careful to avoid getting the product in the baby’s face or eyes. Moisturizer Innisfree Ato Soothing 5.5 Lotion Butylene Glycol, squalene, glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, and shea butter. Great moisturizing ingredients! Panthenol is also included in the mix to protect skin barriers. This is an all-in-one moisturizer for the face and body that I would recommend to people with sensitive skin, pregnant women, and infants. Weleda Calendula Baby Oil Fragrance-Free. Babies need to be massaged very gently. There are only two ingredients! Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed and Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract When a product’s main ingredient is a natural oil, it is going to be very moisturizing and it will leave a sticky barrier on the skin. Use it to massage the baby and use it within 3 months of opening. This is a hypoallergenic natural oil that can be used on pregnant women, infants, and dry skin. If you feel like your baby’s skin is dry even after applying the lotion from Innisfree, mix it with Weleda oil. Mothers can also use both lotions and if that doesn’t completely moisturize the body, use BENTON Shea Butter And Coconut Body Lotion with oil. Wet wipes / Cleansing tissue I brought wet wipes and cleansing tissues that don’t include preservatives. There are wet wipes that only include purified water. Cleansing tissues that include cleansing ingredients often have zeolite. Zeolite is a substitute ingredient that works as a preservative and a sterilizer. Multarro Ultra Pure Water Original It is a dry tissue and you have to pour purified water onto it. Use it if you need a clean, hypoallergenic tissue. It doesn’t include any preservatives, so the water should be used within 5 days after opening. After 5 days, through it out Hanulsoo Pure Water Wipe has two ingredients. Purified water and Zinc zeolite. It’s an antibacterial wet wipe. Bambooskin Cleansing Tissue This tissue is made out of bamboo felt, Zeolite, Forsythia Suspensa Fruit Extract, Rhus Semialata Gall Extract, and Lauryl Hydroxysultaine are included. It has the strongest cleansing power among all the wet wipes and cleansing tissues I’ve reviewed today. However, it’s still for infants, so you should use it within 2~3 weeks. Wet wipes for babies should not include fragrance or aroma oil. It might not smell good, but it’s better for the baby. Sunscreen There were many questions about sunscreen for infants. However, you don’t need to apply sunscreen on your baby every time you go out. Rather, I’d recommend blocking sunlight with a stroller, hat, or parasol(sunshade). If you are not able to block sunlight, then use a physical sunscreen. Scinic T Simple Non Nano Physical Sunscreen Lotion This product includes non-nano titanium dioxide, so it leaves a lot of white cast, It has high UV protection levels and it is also waterproof, so it would come in handy when you and your child go out for a long time or take a trip to the beach. When you use waterproof sunscreen, use a cleansing tissue that includes cleansing ingredients. This is a waterproof sunscreen that I would recommend to people with sensitive skin, pregnant women, and infants. Innisfree True Care Non-Nano Non-Comedo Physical Sun Stick It is a non-nano titanium dioxide sun stick that uses calamine to control sebum It effectively blocks UV lights and it is waterproof. This is a physical sun stick that I would recommend for pregnant women, infants, kids, and acne skin. Among the three products, the ones from Scinic and the sunstick from Innisfree is better when you’re going out for a long time. The sunscreen from Innisfree is good for short walks. Of course, you should choose the right sunscreen depending on the age of your child. Ending Today, I had a very strict standard of items for pregnant women and infants. If something feels off or if you’re not sure about the ingredients, I think it’s best not to use it. However, if you don’t know about the ingredients, choose a product with minimal ingredients that can fit your skin type. Fathers are just as important as mothers. You shouldn’t use any perfume at all, and also avoid products that include fragrance, artificial fragrance, or ingredients that can cause allergies. This is it for today! See you next week!
